Terms of Use
Last updated: April 27, 2026
1. Acceptance
By installing or using Speakle, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, please don't use Speakle. The same goes for the website at speakle.io — your use of either is your acceptance of these terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Speakle (16 in the EU and UK). If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these Terms on your behalf. We don't run age-verification, so you're on the honor system.
3. What Speakle is
Speakle is a daily speaking practice app: one prompt, sixty seconds, scored. We grade clarity, pace, flow, and structure, and we count your filler words. It is a fitness tool for your speaking voice — it is not professional speech therapy, medical advice, or a substitute for either. If you have a clinical concern about your speech, please see a licensed professional.
4. Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google. We don't run a password system. Use your real identity, don't impersonate anyone else, keep one account per person, and don't share your account with someone else. You're responsible for everything that happens on your account.
5. Subscriptions and billing
Speakle has a free tier and a paid tier called Speakle Pro. Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the Apple App Store on iOS and through the Google Play Store on Android, on three plans:
- Yearly — US$59.99 per year, with a 3-day free trial.
- Monthly — US$14.99 per month, with a 3-day free trial.
- Weekly — US$6.99 per week, no trial.
Prices may differ by country and store. The current price shown inside the app at checkout is authoritative.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID account (iOS) or your Google account / Google Play payment method (Android) when you confirm the purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
You can manage your subscription, cancel, or turn off auto-renew at any time:
- iOS — open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Speakle, or visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
- Android — open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Speakle, or visit play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
Cancelling stops the next renewal — your Pro access continues through the end of the period you've already paid for.
Refunds are handled by the store you purchased from, under that store's refund policy. On iOS, request via Apple's Report a Problem page. On Android, request via Google Play's Order history. We can't issue refunds directly.
A free trial converts automatically to a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. If we change prices in the future, we'll give notice through the app and through Apple's and Google's required mechanisms; continued use after the new price takes effect is acceptance of the change.
6. Your recordings: ownership and license
You own your recordings. By saving a recording in Speakle, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, copy, transmit, transcribe, score, and play it back to you — strictly for the purpose of providing the Speakle service. We do not use your recordings to train third-party AI models.
7. Public sharing and the leaderboard
Recordings are private by default. If you choose to make a specific recording public — for example, to appear on the leaderboard or in a share card — you grant other Speakle users a license to play that recording, react to it, and report it within the app. You can unshare a recording at any time, which removes it from public surfaces.
8. AI processing
To produce your transcript and feedback, we send your audio to AssemblyAI for transcription and your transcript text to Google's Gemini API for coaching feedback. Per their respective terms, neither company uses your data to train their models. See the Privacy Policy for the full list of sub-processors.
9. Acceptable use and prohibited content
Speakle is meant to be useful, friendly, and honest. The following are not allowed, whether in your recording, your username, your profile, or anywhere else you can put text or audio:
- Harassment, bullying, threats, or hate speech directed at any person or group.
- Sexual content, sexually suggestive content, or anything sexually involving minors.
- Violent or graphic content, including threats of violence or self-harm content presented approvingly.
- Content that exploits, endangers, or sexualizes minors in any way.
- Illegal content, including content that infringes someone else's intellectual property — don't read out a published book, perform a copyrighted song, or rebroadcast a paid podcast.
- Doxxing — sharing private information about other people without their consent.
- Impersonation — pretending to be someone else.
- Spam, advertising, or attempts to drive traffic off-platform.
- Automated abuse — running bots against the leaderboard, the API, or other users.
We reserve the right to remove any recording, hide any account, or terminate any user that violates this section. Repeat offenders are banned.
10. Reporting and takedown
Anyone can report a public recording from inside the app — long-press a recording to bring up the report menu. We aim to review every report within 24 hours. If we agree the content violates these Terms, we remove it.
For copyright issues: if you believe content on Speakle infringes a copyright you own, email support@speakle.io with (a) the URL or description of the recording, (b) a description of the work being infringed, (c) your contact information, and (d) a good-faith statement that you have rights in the work. We'll respond promptly.
11. Service availability
Speakle is provided "as is" and "as available." We may add, change, or remove features, pause the service for maintenance, or discontinue parts of it. We'll do our best not to lose your data, but we can't guarantee uptime or continuous availability.
12. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Speakle makes no warranties about scoring accuracy, fluency outcomes, or fitness for any particular purpose. Speakle is for practice and self-reflection — it is not a clinical assessment, an employment screening tool, or a diagnostic instrument. Don't rely on it for high-stakes decisions.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to Speakle is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) US$50. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including loss of data, revenue, or goodwill — even if we've been advised of the possibility.
14. Indemnification
You agree to defend and indemnify Speakle from any third-party claim arising out of (a) content you post or recordings you make public on Speakle, (b) your violation of these Terms, or (c) your violation of someone else's rights.
15. Termination
You can stop using Speakle at any time and delete your account in-app from Settings → Delete Account. We can suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or use Speakle in ways that harm other users or us. If we terminate for breach, you don't get a refund for any unused time on your subscription; Apple's refund policy still applies.
16. Apple addendum (App Store distribution)
If you obtained Speakle from the Apple App Store, the following terms are required by Apple and apply on top of the rest of these Terms:
- These Terms are an agreement between you and Speakle, not between you and Apple. Apple is not responsible for Speakle or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Speakle.
- If Speakle fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Speakle.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or any third party relating to Speakle, including product-liability claims, claims that Speakle fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection claims.
- If a third party claims that Speakle infringes their intellectual property rights, Speakle (not Apple) is responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging the claim.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance Apple has the right to enforce these Terms against you.
- You must use Speakle in compliance with the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms of Service.
17. Google Play addendum (Google Play distribution)
If you obtained Speakle from the Google Play Store, your use of the app is also governed by the Google Play Terms of Service. Subscriptions purchased through Google Play are billed by Google, and refund requests must go through Google Play's order-history flow. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for Speakle or its content, but you agree to comply with the Google Play Terms in addition to these Terms.
18. Governing law and disputes
Speakle is operated by an independent developer with no registered company. Disputes are governed by the law applicable in your country of residence, except where mandatory consumer-protection law dictates otherwise. Claims related to App Store distribution are additionally governed by the Apple Media Services Terms of Service; claims related to Google Play distribution are additionally governed by the Google Play Terms of Service. We hope to never need any of this — please email us first if there's a problem.
19. Changes to these Terms
If we change these Terms, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top. For changes that materially affect your rights, we'll surface an in-app notice on the next launch. Continued use after the change takes effect is acceptance of the new Terms.
